Tending Your Inner Fire
In this opening message of our new series, we dive into the Parable of the Sower from Luke 8 to explore what it means to have an "inner fire" with gospel impact. Jesus identifies three major enemies of a listening heart: the hard heart of cynicism, the shallow heart of emotional hype, and the divided heart of competing priorities. We live in a world that trains us in "extractive listening"—multitasking and data-mining—but Jesus calls us to a deep, transformative listening that yields a crop a hundred times what was sown. By looking at the journey of the Apostle John—from a "Son of Thunder" wanting to call down fire on his enemies to the "Apostle of Love"—we discover that the secret to fanning the inner fire isn't manufacturing hype, but positioning ourselves in close proximity to Jesus.
