The DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry

DSSM Overview

DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry is different to any traditional college. Rather than an emphasis on theory alone, application and experience will also be highlighted and encouraged. Students will participate in a variety of different learning methods that are practical and experiential, including faith assignments, group interaction and classroom tutorials. The School aims to train you in body, soul and spirit so that you are an effective conduit for the power of the Spirit.

Expect the Holy Spirit to invade your life from every dimension possible when you sign up for a year at DSSM! The practical emphasis, teamed with the thorough theological training, will enhance your ability to advance God’s powerful Kingdom. By choosing to do the School, you are making the choice to invite God to invade and transform you!

DSSM also has a strong relationship with Bethel Church, Redding USA and is privileged to have had input from Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton in the continued development of the School program. As part of this, we are blessed have access to the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry curriculum, and are able to put to great use a wide variety of Bethel’s excellent teaching DVDs, faith assignments and personal input from its staff. As a student of DSSM, you will have access to teaching from Bill & Beni Johnson, Kris & Kathy Vallotton, Danny & Sheri Silk, and other amazing Bethel teachers and pastors.

A letter from the Pastor of DaySpring Church

Welcome to a year of adventure and growth! DaySpring Church’s primary mission is to take this generation on a journey in the Spirit. Our mission statement in a word is “SpiritLIFE!”. DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry is therefore dedicated to taking people on a journey in the Spirit, to introducing them to the empowering presence of God through the Spirit and to encouraging personal transformation through spiritual revival.

Understanding grace (God’s empowering presence) is vital to all Christian life and ministry, and we feel that it is our mission to teach and activate grace in whatever ministry activity we engage. Grace must permeate our conscious and unconscious thinking. Grace can only be defined and understood in the context of the Holy Spirit. We feel that it is our job to prepare, train and equip the Church to bring the empowering grace of God to every place we are called.

DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry is more than a school, it is a Holy Spirit journey into the realm of the Kingdom of God. It is a purposely-pursued heavenly adventure where no one dare travel without the Spirit. In this context, students will learn how to minister with power and naturally walk in God’s kingdom “with signs and wonders following”.

We are on the edge of the greatest move of the Spirit of God in human history. God is sending resources to help us. However, there remains a gap between what is and what should be. Part of that gap is you, and part is us! Together we can bridge that Kingdom gap. Together we can learn how to prophesy, how to minister healing and to bring good news to those who are broken.

You are invited, even challenged, to participate!

Yours for Kingdom adventure,

David Crabtree
Senior Pastor
DaySpring Church

A letter from the Director

Attending DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry is an opportunity to discover and walk in the realms of heaven on earth. Like Jesus, we want to be naturally supernatural, knowing what is on the Father’s heart and walking it out in His empowerment.

We invite you to come on a journey with the Holy Spirit, to allow Him to effect transformation in your life and then see it flow to the community, to see the impossible become possible.

The school is an opportunity to be trained and equipped to walk in signs and wonders, a time to learn, walk under godly leadership and be trained to lead others. There is ample opportunity to gain insight and understanding from scripture and apply it practically, to worship extravagantly and to discover and develop gifts for the kingdom.

Come and join us in this journey of adventure!

Narelle Crabtree
Senior Pastor
DaySpring Church

First Year

DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry is available to anyone interested in pursuing training in Supernatural Ministry on a part-time basis. DSSM has chosen to offer its First Year part-time, to make participation in the School available for those with full-time jobs, families and other commitments. This is because the vision of the School is to train, empower and equip every believer who desires to pursue personal and worldwide transformation in their sphere of God-given influence, whether that is a workplace, family, ministry, community, church or even the nations.

As well as class time, DaySpring students will become involved in the life of the church through involvement in church ministries in one Sunday service per week. Students from other churches attending the School will continue to attend services at their home church, whilst attending one DaySpring service.

First Year Curriculum

As part of the First Year curriculum, students will undertake 24 subjects. These include the content from the major conferences and intensives held at DaySpring in 2012.

Each year, a number of guest speakers contribute to the teaching of the School, both as class facilitators and also as conference guests. Speakers for 2012 are set to include:

  • Bill Johnson (Bethel Church)
  • Graham Cooke (Potter’s House)
  • Kris Vallotton (Bethel Church)
  • Danny & Sheri Silk (Bethel Church)

  • Leif Hetland (Global Mission Awarenesss)

In addition to core teaching subjects, students will also participate in a number of practical subjects, in particular during the two DSSM Intensives.

Outlined below is a list of the core First Year subjects.

Semester One
The Spirit of Grace Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
A life in the Spirit is also a life in Grace, just as a life in Grace is necessarily a life in the Spirit. This course redefines “grace” from its traditional definition of “unmerited favour” into “God’s empowering presence.” A life of Grace means a life dependent, empowered and governed by the Spirit.
Ministry Training Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Prayer Ministry is ministry training in a church context. It is focused on praying or ministering to someone who has presented with a specific need; this need may be healing, deliverance, personal spiritual breakthrough or salvation.
In this course, students are trained to participate in large ministry teams, which operate during church after an invitation to come for prayer has been given. As well as learning to minister effectively, students will also receive an impartation from the Holy Spirit to help and strengthen them to assist those receiving ministry to see effective Kingdom transformation in their lives.
Prayer & Intercession Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Intercession is defined as holy, believing, persevering prayer whereby someone pleads with God on behalf of another or others who desperately need God’s intervention. The Bible records the intercession of Christ and the Holy Spirit and of numerous godly men and women under both the old and new covenants.
Students will explore different aspects of intercession as found in scripture, as well as its purposes and practical application. From there, students will be equipped with the tools to pray prophetically, speak in tongues and pray words of wisdom.
The Foundations of Prophetic Ministry Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This course explores the scriptural basis for prophetic ministry and the relevance of this gift for the church today. It also includes practical exercises to train and empower students to activate the prophetic in their own lives.
Students will examine the following topics: Old Testament Prophets, New Testament Apostles, New Testament Prophets, The Source of Prophecies, Prophecy and Teaching, The Content of Prophecies, Prophets and Church Government and Can All Believers Prophesy?
Also students will take part in a number of practical exercises designed to activate and increase the prophetic skill of each student.
Further Prophetic Training Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This course examines further aspects of prophetic ministry; in particular examining the heart and attitudes behind prophecy and how revelation is received and delivered.
In Part One, students will study Moving from Revelation to Prophecy: Our Perception of God, A Prophetic Season of Grace, Eyes of the Spirit, not of the Flesh and Peace, not Pressure. In Part Two students will look at the inspiration behind the prophetic in How Does Prophecy Come: Visions/Dreams/Scripture/Impressions.
Practising the Presence Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Students will learn to practise and experience the presence of God both in Body, Mind & Spirit. Unlocking barriers to intimacy will enable students to tap into incredible kingdom resources through worship, prayer, the Bible and relationships with God and each other.
A Theology of Healing Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject explores the framework of New Testament healing theology. Using the basis of Jesus as our model, students will examine how Jesus healed and how he ministered. Students will also look at the key factors in healing ministry training: Faith, Compassion, Authority and Power Prayer. In addition to this, A Theology of Healing will also look at:
  1. Ministering Healing to the Spirit: understanding spiritual sickness and healing.
  2. Ministering Healing to the Emotions: understanding emotional sickness and healing.
  3. Ministering Deliverance from Demonisation: understanding demonization and deliverance.
  4. Ministering Healing to the Body: understanding physical sickness and healing.
Romans Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject will delve into the subject of Grace, using the book of Romans. Students will answer the following key questions:
  1. On what basis does righteousness come to the believer in the New Covenant?
  2. What are the implications of New Covenant righteousness to the life of the believer, specifically in regard to issues of freedom and healing?
  3. How does sin increase? And so how do we increase freedom?
Outreach Ministry Training Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Students will undertake both theoretical and practical training in different areas of Spirit-led ministry, including ministry in a New Age context and ministry and evangelism out in the community, as well as core training in healing, deliverance and prophetic ministry. This course will focus on a number of aspects of outreach ministry. Students will look at the imperatives of what we do, examining the truths which make action necessary. Students will also study different approaches to outreach ministry and why it is crucial to be motivated by love, empowered by the Spirit and authentic people. Students learn to use down-to-earth, relevant language, and to move past “Christianese”.
This part also examines process evangelism. The practical elements of this subject include Treasure Hunting, Practicing Prophecy and Dream Interpretation.
Revelation & Discernment Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Learning to exercise discernment is crucial to growth and maturity in the Spirit. It is also critical to walking in the gifts of revelation and the prophetic. This subject looks at the role discernment plays in a life lived in the Spirit. Students will examine the keys to increasing discernment and use exercises to demonstrate how this gift influences and strengthens the process of receiving and delivering revelation. This subject also examines the blockages to walking in discernment and revelation and how to overcome them, including intimidation. Students will be taught practically how to access the Third Heaven and how to recognise “the real thing” – the voice, nature and character of God.
Challenges of Faith Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject is designed to expand the limits of students and their expectations of what God will do through them, while providing them with a framework to help understand the journey of faith we are all on. At its core, this is a practical subject with practical objectives. We believe that God sets us up to succeed in each step of our lives and will “richly provide us with everything”. Learning to hear His voice and stepping out in faith is vital.
Semester Two
The Power of the Kingdom Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject aims to shift students’ understanding of the gospel from a more traditional “gospel of salvation” paradigm to a “gospel of the Kingdom” paradigm. Students will explore the following questions:
  1. What is the gospel of the Kingdom?
  2. What is the nature of the Kingdom?
  3. What are the implications of these on the church, on the way we minister and on the way we reach the world?
Destiny Discovery Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject will seek to provide a framework of Kingdom thinking as a context for discovering destiny. Students will look the link between a person’s dreams and desires of the heart, and their personal calling and destiny. Destiny Discovery aims to take students of a journey of personal discovery of their personal dreams, desires, and destiny. It will help them develop a plan of action to begin to walk in their God-given destiny.
HeartStyles Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
HeartStyles will empower students to learn more about their personal character and how it impacts their effectiveness in life, relationships, career and ministry. By measuring worldly and Kingdom behaviours, HeartStyles helps shine a light on what could be holding students back in their hearts and provides guidance for true personal growth – through Jesus Christ.
With HeartStyles, students will:
  1. Learn more about themselves and how others perceive them.
  2. Learn the difference between worldly and Kingdom behaviours.
  3. Discover Development Opportunities and Areas of Strength.
  4. Learn how to take action and transform character.
  5. Renew their minds with Kingdom thinking.

  4. What is God’s place in mission?
  5. What is our place in mission?
A Culture of Honour Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
This subject will explore:
  1. What is culture, and why is it important?
  2. A Biblical definition of honour.
  3. Why honour is so important and so powerful.
  4. What honour looks like in practice in a community of believers.
The Spirit in Worship Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Worship is at the very core of the heart of DaySpring. It is crucial to drawing the church in to open heaven encounters and bringing the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. The Spirit and His presence are our highest value. We are passionate about bringing God all the praise He is due. We are also passionate about exploring all that He has paid for us to experience in His presence. This subject is designed to encourage students to go higher in praise and deeper in intimacy with God than ever before, and to discover who they are and the unique offering they alone bring in worship.
Life in the Spirit Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
After Jesus returned to His Father at the ascension, the story of the New Testament became the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit in power and the equipping and empowering of all Jesus’ followers with the same Spirit that Jesus had. The coming of the Spirit meant that each individual received the Person of the Spirit of Jesus, which enabled every believer to become an effective disciple-maker. This course examines what it means to live in the Spirit, how to have a Spirit empowered relationship with the Father and how we might mature in the Kingdom after we enter it through the work of saving grace.
Life Vision Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Life Vision aims to assist and empower students to walk into their destiny by reflection on their year at DSSM and creating a plan for the next season of their life. Students will collect their reflections from the year and detail the skills, attitude and knowledge they have gained. This course will encourage students to start envisioning how to use these skills, attitude and knowledge over the next 5 years. Students will discover a picture for their future, look at the GROW model for planning and examine hurdles and solutions to living out their destiny. Finally, this course will discuss and define what being an asset to a church and a community looks like.

Textbooks and Assigments

First Year students read approximately 6 books throughout their year. Books are given at the beginning of each semester, giving plenty of time to complete all necessary reading by the subject date. Students are also given supplementary notes and readings as part of several classes, which help to contribute to their overall understanding of the subject.

In addition, students complete several assignments throughout the year. These take the form of both written and practical assignments; a combination of book reports based on the assigned texts, personal written responses to questions arising in class, and challenges of faith missions. Assignments are not expected to be of academic standard, but rather a simple indication of the student’s response to the teaching content.

Small Groups

Each First Year is assigned to a small group pastored by a Second Year during their year at DSSM. These Small Groups are intended to create a place of safety and intimacy; therefore, men and women are in separate groups. Small Groups are designed to allow students to form close connections and provide a place of more personal growth. Many students come to DSSM with personal lifestyles of accountability and responsibility already in place; others have never developed these healthy habits due to a variety of reasons. Our goal is to help students develop healthy intimate relationships and to give them a safe place where mistakes can be made while they learn responsibility. Small Groups take place every Wednesday night after the teaching sessions, and are a great opportunity for practising what has been taught, asking questions, receiving encouragement and developing relationships.

School Schedule

A typical week for First Year students would be as follows:

Wednesdays:

5:30pm – 6:30pm Social Time & Supper (Optional) 6:30pm – 7:00pm Worship 7:00pm – 8:00pm Session I 8:00pm – 8:15pm Break 8:15pm – 9:15pm Session II 9:15pm – 10:00pm Small Group Time 10:00pm Finish

Compulsory Attendance at all DaySpring Conferences and Events

These will be outlined at the beginning of Semester One, as conference dates are confirmed.

DSSM students will also have the opportunity to accompany DaySpring staff on various ministry trips and local outreaches to churches and events around NSW throughout the year. Whilst these trips are optional, they are fantastic growth opportunities and enable students to practically experience the empowering presence of God as they impact churches and communities. Students will be notified ahead of time as each outreach is scheduled.

Second Year

Second Year is available to students who have completed the First Year course. If a student decides to continue, they will take a more “hands on” role in School leadership, primarily in the areas of pastoral care and small group leadership, while also being challenged and grown in deeper ways. Second Year Students will work more closely with the staff of DaySpring Church while also learning keys of successful leadership by mentoring First Year students and co-facilitating School events and expeditions.

Second Year students will also become involved with a specific ministry of DaySpring to focus on, allowing students to learn the fundamental elements of church and ministry work. Second Year will assist the leaders of that ministry, with the view to releasing them into leadership as the year progresses.

Students will be given opportunities to be strengthened and grown, overseen by DSSM staff and Interns committed to your success! This course is designed to enable students to become the leaders God wishes them to be. Students will learn mentoring, team building and conflict resolution skills and Grace-based leadership.

Second Year students must also be involved in a significant capacity with a specific ministry within church life (whether at DaySpring or their home church). This is to give practical outlet to some of the training students will receive in leadership.

Second Year Curriculum

Outlined below is a list of the Second Year core topics:
Leadership Development Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
We will look at New Testament leadership gifts and models whilst exploring the qualities of effective leaders. Students will discover their own styles and be nurtured into spiritual leaders both in theory and practice. They will also receive group mentoring in the process of developing their leadership heart. Leadership Development classes focus on developing both abilities and attitudes of good leaders in each student.
This is the major subject of the Second Year curriculum. Different aspects of this subject will be taught by facilitators such as: David Crabtree, Narelle Crabtree, Tim Ferris, Russell Bradley, Chris Patten and Adam Debenham, amongst others. Each Leadership Development class will focus on a specific area of leadership, including the following areas:
  • Foundations for Personal Growth
  • Person vs. Position
  • Becoming a Leader of Influence
  • The Challenges of Leadership
  • Visioning
  • The Principles of Apostolic Kingdom Government
  • Prophetic & Revelatory Leadership
Pastoral Care Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Students are given the opportunity to minister pastorally by being given a degree of oversight with the First Year Students. This includes facilitating small groups, organising and co-leading outreaches and missions trips, prayer ministry and mentoring as well as general leadership. Students are also mentored in their pastoral care role by participating in their own small group, led by one of the pastors. This aim of this group is to care for and encourage the Second Years, whilst also teaching pastoral skills and dealing with challenges that arise. This is valuable relationship time as well as training.
Ministry Elective(s)Click on the course title to reveal or hide the course description.
Students are given first-hand experience of the inner workings of a church, and the ability to explore their own giftings and passions by ministering supernaturally in an area of church life of their choice. Students will be coached and developed as they train in leadership and gradually released into increasing responsibility throughout the year. Second Years may choose to participate in a ministry of DaySpring Church or in their home church, and are encouraged to choose an area that will facilitate their growth. DSSM staff will work with each Second Year in selecting an appropriate ministry elective.

School Schedule

The Second Year schedule is similar to the First-Year Schedule, with primary classes held on Wednesdays. It includes involvement in all weekend services plus all conferences and events.

A typical week for Second Year students would be as follows:

Wednesdays:

5:30pm – 6:30pm Second Year Pastoral Small Group 6:30pm – 7:00pm Worship 7:00pm – 8:00pm Session I 8:00pm – 8:15pm Break 8:15pm – 9:15pm Session II 9:15pm – 10:00pm Small Group Time 10:00pm Finish

Sundays:

All DaySpring weekend services
This includes attendance at pre-service prayer.

Whilst these trips are optional, they are fantastic growth opportunities and enable students to practically experience the empowering presence of God as they impact churches and communities. Students will be notified ahead of time as each outreach is scheduled.

Third Year

DSSM Third Year is run as an Internship program, working closely with a leader and department of DaySpring Church. The Third Year program is tailored individually to each Intern and will include pastoral oversight, coaching, leadership training (including sessions with our Senior Leadership Team) and regular times with other Interns.

Internships provide an opportunity to experience the Kingdom culture of leadership first hand. Our program is tailored to meet both the interns calling and the ministry of the person for whom they will intern. In addition to time spent with one’s leader and learning ministry by serving, it will include individual pastoral oversight, coaching, leadership training (including some sessions with our Senior Leadership team) and regular time with other interns to build relationship.

Internships generally center on the five-fold ministry, as well as youth and young adults, children, worship, prayer, missions, etc. Although Third Year is primarily intended for those considering career ministry in the church, we also encourage those who feel a call to leadership in other areas of society to pursue this option.

Applicants must have completed the First and Second Years of the DaySpring School of the Supernatural.

All applicants must have consistently demonstrated a high standard of personal integrity, character and motivation. Internships will be served at DaySpring Church.

Additional Information

Weekend Services

Church ministry is a mandatory part of the School curriculum and you will be required to be actively involved in Sunday services at DaySpring Church. You will also be given the opportunity to serve in various areas of church ministries on Sundays, including Kids Church, Prayer Ministry Team, Welcoming, Hospitality, Operations, service preparation and prayer. We want students to be well-rounded in their ministry experience.

Students who attend DaySpring as their home church will attend both Sunday services. Students from other churches have the option of attending only one Sunday service, in order to be free to keep attending services at their home church.

Intensives

There are two week-long intensives during the year. These run Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm and will include practical training as well as teaching. It is absolutely vital that you are able to attend these intensives, as this is the practical application of what is taught in classes on Wednesdays. They are also really fun!

Conferences and Events

Each year, there are 4 conferences that are compulsory for all students. Dates and details for these conferences will be given to you along with your Student Handbook once your application has been finalised. Conferences typically run over weekends – students will not be required to compulsorily attend events outside of Wednesday nights, Sundays and Friday nights/Saturdays (excepting the DSSM Intensive weeks).

Students will be rostered on in all ministry areas during conferences. This includes the registration desk, welcoming, ushering, hospitality, info desk, venue management and car park attendants, etc. However, every effort is made to ensure that students receive as much of the teaching as possible, if not all.

Additional conferences and events take place during the year. As a DSSM Student you have access to all conferences run by DaySpring, and can them attend all if you would like to. Registration to events is covered by your tuition fee, on the understanding that you attend events as a student, which involves serving as well as participating in sessions.

Refund Policy

In the event that you withdraw from the school within the first semester and have previously paid your tuition in full, you may receive a refund of up to 75%. This refunded amount is based upon a pro-rated monthly portion of paid tuition.
After May 31st, tuition is non-refundable.

Local and International Outreach Trips

Each year students are given the opportunity to participate in a number of optional outreaches to churches around Sydney, regional NSW and interstate, as well as ministries and organizations outside of Australia. The cost of these trips will depend on the location selected and are not included in the tuition fee. Students will not be eligible to participate in outreach trips unless they are up-to-date with their tuition fees. Local church visits will often take place on a weekend, whilst regional, interstate and international outreaches will be between 3 and 10 days in length. Dates, costs and other details will be made for outreach trips as early in each semester as possible.

Outreach trips are an amazing way to positively impact people outside of your normal environment, whilst stretching, growing and teaching you as you minister to others. We believe in the value of serving others locally and internationally and being strategic in spreading the gospel and His Kingdom of power! We strongly encourage you to consider participating in one or more.

In 2012, outreach and ministry trips are being planned for the following locations:

  • Semester One

Exploring Supernatural Ministry

Exploring Supernatural Ministry: A DVD Course (or ESM) is a course offered by the DaySpring School of Supernatural Ministry. It is available to anyone with a heart to pursue the supernatural! This is a training program offered as a series of modules, using teaching from Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry , in Redding USA.

Anyone can do ESM! The teaching sessions run in conjunction with NSW School Terms and are designed to be practical, interactive and taught in community. They are aimed at empowering students to apply what they are learning to their daily lives – this is all about life in the Kingdom!

ESM runs both a ‘first year’ (known as ‘Stage One’) and ‘second year’ (‘Stage Two’) program. Both stages consist of a series of 7 modules taught over the course of 10 months. Each module is 4 sessions in length, taught 1 night per week. The course is DVD-based, with the teaching material coming directly from Bethel Church. Each 4-week module will also include small group discussion and practical activation, life application, prophetic input, worship and individual development.

In 2012, ESM will be offering Stage One modules running on Monday nights, and Stage Two modules running on Tuesday nights. Stage Two consists of a further series of modules available to students who have previously completed any module from the first stage.

With both stages, there are 2 options in undertaking this course. The first is to sign up for the Full Program, which enables students to complete 7 modules over the course of 10 months. Alternatively, students can elect to sign up for individual modules. With this option, students may attend as many or as few modules as they wish. The Full Program is 28 sessions in total. Students who choose individual modules will attend 4 sessions per module selected. Please note that some modules carry a pre-requisite requirement.
